Donald Eric Burton, b. Oct. 21, 1963; bats right, throws right.
I grew up in the small town of Defiance, Ohio and currently reside with my wife and two children in the house at the end of the cul-de-sac, near Miamisburg, Ohio.
I consider myself an Edmund Burke conservative, and a Hamiltonian rather than a Jeffersonian, with a streak of small-l libertarianism, particularly on economic issues.
I'm an attorney in private practice, but I don't see myself as an attorney-blogger (or is the term attorney-at-blog?); I view this site as an opportunity to shed my usual professional persona and write "as I please" (the apt title of a column George Orwell wrote intermittently in the 1940s) on topics of my own choosing. I'm an avid reader of history, particularly military history, and intend to bring whatever perspective that reading has brought me to my comments on currents trends and events.
This weblog is essentially an illogical extension of my practice of bombarding friends, relatives, and colleagues via e-mail with commentary and news items from the Internet, a practice that began when I started reading the Drudge Report in 1997 and that has continued as the Internet in general and "blogs" in particular have shown their potential to be a check on the pomposity of the orthodox liberal media.
